Speakers need to be addressing their audience in a way that is both engaging and aimed at the audience’s level of knowledge – whilst bearing in mind the goal of the speech i.e. a specialist educating GPs on managing sleep apnea in patients or a sales team motivated to try new sales methods.

A comfortable venue that is appealing
Good food and even better coffee! Well aired and with lighting that helps an audience to stay awake.

Entertainment that is fun without dominating the event
Socialising with fellow colleagues can be an important part of many events so entertainment needs to promote this, not capture the limelight. Also it needs to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.

Promoting your event…
When an event is not mandatory but needs good attendance to be successful, there needs to be a carefully orchestrated marketing push to get buy in.

The message, method and means depends on the target market, there is no one answer for reaching everyone. The frequency of communications is also vital – too often and you are pushy, too little and your message is lost.

Events can be a powerful means of achieving goals and building referrals, but they can also be really costly. It’s not as easy as one might think and can be very time consuming, so be sure to get some professional help.
